Update, 16 October 2026: The 1.0 dedicated server build is out, and a LOW.MS server does not install it by itself: press Update in the panel. The server section now names the new enshrouded_server.json keys from the 1.0 server readme.

Update, 15 October 2026: Enshrouded 1.0 is out. It released at 15:00 UTC (16:00 BST). Keen's full changelog confirms that existing worlds carry over: the first time 1.0 loads a save from 0.8 or earlier, the game backs it up and converts it to a new save format. Skill points come back to spend after the reset. The FAQ and the server section below are updated to match.

Enshrouded left Early Access on 15 October 2026. Keen's 1.0 release resets every character's skill tree, raises the level cap to 50 and the gear cap to 55, and adds nine new spells (summons among them), upgradeable Eternal spells and three new Eternal arrows. Your server needs the 1.0 build before your players can join, and every player should spend their skill points before leaving base.

What Keen haven't confirmed yet is in our pre-launch post. This one covers what they have confirmed is in the release.

What changed in the skill tree

The skill tree, reset for every character in 1.0

1.0 adds new skills and moves existing ones, so Keen reset the tree for every character. In their words: "your skill tree has been reset, hopefully for the last time." Their advice is blunt: "Don't step out of your base without investing your points, or you're gonna have a bad time." The "hopefully" is because this is the second reset this year: Update 8 reset the tree in April and refunded every point.

Eight new skills

Five of the new skills are for mages and three are for archers.

Skill Class What it does
Advanced Necromancy Mage Raises how many skeletons you can summon at once
Totem Mastery Mage Raises how many totems you can summon at once
Aerial Wand Attack Mage An area attack with a wand that you can trigger in mid-air
Wand Evasion Attack Mage An evasion attack with wider, piercing wand projectiles
Blast and Cast Mage After a critical hit with a wand, your next staff attack within 10 seconds does 50% more base damage
Puncture Archer Raises ranged piercing damage
Barrage Archer Bow hits have a chance to restore 1 durability to the bow
Survival Instinct Archer Killing a Shroud-infested enemy with a bow or dagger adds time in the Shroud

Keen's combat post gives the archer values as "x%" and "x sec", and the 1.0 changelog does not add them, so the exact numbers for Puncture, Barrage and Survival Instinct are still not published.

Changes to existing skills

Keen's 1.0 changelog says they "reduced the costs and buffed the effects of many skills based on feedback from the community". It names a few: the dagger skills move from the warrior area of the tree to the assassin tree, and Veteran, One-Handed Specialization, Inner Fires and Snap get new unlock costs, effects or positions.

What's in 1.0

Level cap 50, gear cap 55

New enemy variants arrive with the higher caps

"New biome means new enemy tier and max level, for players and gear!" The maximum player level rises to 50, and equipment goes up to level 55.

Every enemy faction, the Fell and Scavengers included, is getting new variants. Some are heavy or elite, so expect tougher fights in familiar places as well as new ones.

Nine new spells, including summons

Mages get the biggest share of the 1.0 combat changes

Mages get the most attention in Keen's 1.0 combat changes. The nine new spells are:

  • Mana Drain, which takes a fixed amount of mana per second from an enemy and adds it to your pool
  • Entangle, which Keen say helps against tougher enemies
  • Pillar of Flames
  • Blizzard and Ball Lightning, both area-of-effect spells for groups
  • Summon Fire Totem, Summon Ice Totem and Summon Shock Totem
  • Summon Hollow Skeleton

Summons are a new category of spell. Two new skills raise how many you can have out at once: Advanced Necromancy for skeletons and Totem Mastery for totems.

Existing spells get more versions too, so a favourite combination from an early biome stays useful later on. Mana costs and casting times are rebalanced around damage: big spells take longer to cast.

Eternal spells become upgradeable. 1.0 has 22 tier 7 spells, the Eternal versions, which cast without using spell ammo. They upgrade like weapons and armour, with their own perks such as reduced mana cost.

Wand heavy attacks

Wands gain a mid-air attack and a piercing heavy attack

Wands get a heavy attack that pierces past the first enemy and interrupts weaker enemies' attacks. Three of the new skills in the table above are built around wands: Aerial Wand Attack, Wand Evasion Attack and Blast and Cast.

Wand targeting favours the centre of the screen and closer enemies, swapping between wand and staff mid-fight gets a batch of fixes, and wands can hit explosive barrels.

New Eternal arrows and aim assist

Every Eternal arrow becomes upgradeable with perks, like weapons and spells. Three new ones join them: the Eternal Fire arrow, Eternal Shock arrow and Eternal Bone arrow.

New aim assist options for ranged combat sit in the game settings, on by default for controller and off for mouse and keyboard.

Updating your server to 1.0

  1. Take a backup before the update, so you have a copy to go back to.
  2. Update the server to 1.0. The 1.0 server build has been out since 15 October, but your server does not install it by itself: press Update (see the tip below).
  3. Check it comes back online before telling your group it is ready.
  4. Remind everyone to spend their skill points before they head out.

Tip: On LOW.MS, Create backup is on your server's Backups tab, and the Update button is on the Game updates card on the Overview tab. Update stops the server, installs the latest game files and starts it again.

No server yet? See our Enshrouded server hosting, ready for 1.0.

Hosting it yourself? Stop the server, then update the dedicated server app with SteamCMD. The dedicated server is Windows-only, so on Linux add +@sSteamCmdForcePlatformType windows before +login and run it under Wine or Proton:

steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 2278520 validate +quit

What Keen have said about servers

Keen's full 1.0 changelog, published on 14 October, changes a few server settings:

  • A new Automatic value for the setting that controls how many enemies spawn in each encounter. It scales enemy numbers to the size of the party playing nearby.
  • The enemy damage slider in the server difficulty settings has reworked values.
  • Updraft charge duration can now be changed, but in the game's world settings: there is no updraft key in the server config.
  • The Flame level needed to push back the Shroud with Flame Altars can be lowered in the world settings.
  • On dedicated servers, user groups and their passwords "work as before".

The changelog does not mention ports. The readme that ships with the 1.0 dedicated server names the config changes: a new flameLevelFogRemoval key in gameSettings, the Flame level needed before Flame Altars can be placed in the Shroud (0 to 20, default 11), and Automatic as a new value for randomSpawnerAmount, the enemy amount setting. Keen's Highlights video went up on release day.

FAQ

My skill tree is empty after the update. Is something wrong with the server? No. Keen reset every character's skill tree in 1.0, and the changelog asks players to "make sure to spend the skill points again", so the points come back to spend, as they did when Update 8 reset the tree.

Does Enshrouded 1.0 wipe existing worlds? No. Keen's changelog says the first time 1.0 loads a save from 0.8 or earlier, it backs the save up and then converts it to a new, smaller save format. The dedicated server converts worlds too: on a LOW.MS server we checked, the first 1.0 start wrote the world as world0.ksd in the savegame folder, moved the old save files into savegame/migrated and began keeping rotating copies in savegame/backup. Keen still suggest starting a new world, because the opening hours have changed a lot, but that is up to you. Take a backup before updating anyway, so you have a copy if the conversion goes wrong.

What time did Enshrouded 1.0 release? 15:00 UTC on 15 October, which was 16:00 in the UK and 08:00 in Los Angeles. Keen published the times as a world map in their launch FAQ. The 1.0 dedicated server build came out the same day, but servers do not pick it up on their own: on LOW.MS, press Update on the Game updates card if your server has not been updated since.

Do my players need to update too? Yes. The server and every player need to be on 1.0. When the two are on different versions, players usually cannot join.

Are the new spells and arrows separate DLC? No paid DLC has been announced with 1.0. Keen present the new spells, summons and Eternal arrows as part of the 1.0 release.
