Stormforge Server Hosting: What to Expect Ahead of the 10 November 2026 Early Access Launch

Stormforge, the Stormlight-inspired co-op survival sandbox, is set for Steam Early Access on 10 November 2026. Roboto has said players will be able to self-host, but hasn't announced a dedicated server. Here's the honest state of what we know, what's still unknown, and what it means for LOW.MS plans.

Update, 13 October 2026: I've corrected what this post said about servers. It said self-hosted servers were confirmed for launch day, which went further than anything Roboto has announced: the studio has said players will be able to self-host, but it hasn't announced a standalone dedicated server build or promised one for launch day. There's also a demo on Steam now, and what ships on 10 November is in our Early Access launch rundown.

If you've been watching the upcoming co-op survival slate, Stormforge probably needs no introduction. It's the cel-shaded fantasy survival sandbox from Roboto Games, inspired by D&D and Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive, built for crews of up to 8 players, and Steam Early Access is set for 10 November 2026. I've had a few people ask when we'll have hosted plans live, so here's the honest state of things. Our Stormforge server hosting page is where any plans will appear first.

What Stormforge actually is

A co-op survival crafting game set in a procedurally generated fantasy world called Sorana, with a heavy magic-storms theme. You and your friends drop in and spend your time exploring, gathering, crafting, building strongholds, riding out the storms, and taking down whatever the world throws at you. Standard survival-sandbox loop, but with the kind of moddable, lore-heavy setting the Stormlight community has been waiting for since The Way of Kings came out back in 2010.

Roboto Games has been running playtests in the run-up to this. Since 18 August 2026 there's also been a demo on Steam with multiplayer for up to 8, and it isn't a throwaway: worlds and characters made on the current demo build carry over into Early Access, so nothing you build now is wasted.

What we know about server hosting

Here's the part that matters for us:

  • Roboto has said players will be able to host their own servers. A developer put it this way on the Steam forums in June 2024: the game will support "Self hosted servers connected to via LAN or over a relay server", plus fully offline play. The FAQ in the official Discord still says the same.
  • What Roboto hasn't spelled out, anywhere public I can find, is which kind of server that means. It could be a standalone dedicated server (the sort that runs around the clock on a machine with no game open), or it could just be one player's game hosting the session for everybody else, and only the first of those is something a host can rent you. Nothing I can find promises the dedicated kind for launch day, either.
  • Steam Workshop is on the game's Steam feature list, alongside a level editor. Another developer has said the game was built with modding in mind "from the ground up", but that the modding tool "might not be ready right at Early Access release".

That's the honest list. There's no dedicated server app listed on Steam yet, just the game itself (app 2826790), a demo and a playtest, and we don't have config-file paths, port numbers, or RAM requirements to give you. Anyone telling you those specifics right now is either guessing or quoting numbers from a different game. I'd rather wait until there's a real server build to test than publish made-up specs.

When LOW.MS plans could go live

The short answer: if Roboto releases a dedicated server build we can run, we'll get plans up as soon as we can. If it doesn't, we won't. And if self-hosting turns out to mean hosting from your own game, there's nothing for us (or any other host) to rent you, and I'll say so here.

The slightly longer answer: when Early Access launches we'll look at what ships. If there's a server build, we'll pull it down, get it running on a test box, work out the port set and config layout, and turn it into a proper template in our control panel. Getting from a server build we can download to plans visible on the site usually takes 1-3 weeks for a brand-new game, sometimes faster if the tool the studio ships is a clean one.

What to do in the meantime

Two practical things:

  1. Wishlist Stormforge on its Steam page. You'll get the notification when Early Access opens, and the wishlist count matters to Roboto.
  2. Play the demo with your crew. That's the fastest way to find out whether this is going to be your group's next survival game or whether it isn't. If it is, your world comes with you.

If you've got specific questions about how we'd handle Stormforge hosting (mods, world transfers, anything else), drop a support ticket and we'll add them to what we check if a server build lands.
